The fact that the Opening Balance in my Quicken Windows register was somehow changed and now different than the Opening Balance in my Quicken Mac register made me change it. Well, I probably would have spent more time hunting the problem down if I didn't use Quicken Mac in parallel to my Quicken Windows. I know Quicken let’s you know if you are about to change reconciled transactions but I kind of wish Quicken had a similar feature to really lock down reconciled balance changes and give you a heads up that changing this transaction from three years ago in another account is going to wreak havoc on this other account and cause 36 months to no longer balance and reconcile.Īnyway, good luck.

Once I find the oldest month where it still matches, I start working forward to find the one transaction that got changed and then figure out how to work it. That way if I accidentally screw something up and change a historical transaction somehow (usually changing categories), I just start scanning for those green flags to see if the amount in the comment still equals balance. In the comments for that flag I put the current balance amount that it reconciled to. One trick that I do now is that when I reconcile for the month and get everything perfect, I add a green flag to that last transaction that has the right balance on it. I scroll all the way up to the Opening Balance there.and sure enough, it off by 3 cents compared to the Opening Balance in my Quicken Windows prior to me adjusting that amount. No problem reconciling my Quicken Mac a week ago and the balance is spot on with my bank's balance. Now, mind you.I also run Quicken Mac in parallel to my Quicken Windows. So.I go back and adjust the Opening Balance by three cents this time. And it's only been a few days since I did my monthly reconciliation. I go to my bank's website and compare the balance there with my Quicken balance.
